Sonar Lights Biography

Sonar Lights is a rock trio from the Dallas-Fort Worth area (Texas, USA) whose sound gives the impression that they are a band of more than three people. Mighty, crunchy guitar riffs influenced from the early heavy metal era with pummeling rhythmic textures and dynamic melodic vocals meld together to produce the band’s tight sound. Music analyst Jon Lee from The Hong Kong Underground sums up the band’s live performance by saying, “There are times when a band strikes the first riff and you instantly know that you’re in for a treat.”

Sonar Lights was formed in 2011 and has been hovering under the mainstream radar delivering a brand of rock that has been desperately missed. Since the release of “Here We Are” the band has steadily gained credibility from fans, the media and fellow musicians alike. Disc jockey Angela Chase from 97.1 FM “The Eagle,” the largest rock radio station in North Texas, said on her show, “I would highly recommend that you spend the $9.99 on iTunes and download a copy of Sonar Lights’ album. They have quite a few good songs on it.”

In 2013, the band made quite an impression with Chinese fans and promoters with its Enter The Snake tour. The tour was such a sucess that they were promtly asked to return and rock the masses again at the Midi Festival, China's largest rock festival. And so, the band returned in May 2014 during their Year Of The Horse tour.

In early 2015 Sonar Lights underwent some major line up changes, which were need for the band to move forward. Bassist Darren Wise and drummer Doug McKenna joined George Miadis, vocalist, lead guitarist and driving force behind Sonar Lights. This synthesis of talent brought new energy and excitement the band. Legendary recording engineer/producer Tim Kimsey (Merciful Fate, Pantera, SRV, Don Henley, Sick Puppies) instantly picked up on their new sound. He was present at the new lineup's first show and immediately offered them a recording deal.

The band entered the studio with Kimsey in the spring of 2015 to craft their second album, which was released in January of 2017. Sonar Lights is dedicated to create an album with a reason for existence and plans on touring Canada, South America and Europe in the near future.

Sonar Lights has toured and shared the stage with some of music’s biggest and legendary acts, including: The B-52’s, Cowboy Mouth, Rigor Mortis, Candle Box, Mute Math, Los Lonely Boys, The Toadies, Bowling for Soup and Wishbone Ash.

The band’s sound and sharp songwriting has caught the attention of the industry’s top music equipment manufacturers. Sonar Lights has proudly built working sponsorships with PRS Guitars, Bogner Amplification, ddrum Drums, Remo Heads, Regal Tip Drumsticks, Sterling by Musicman Basses, Westone In Ear, George L's, Mono, Trailer Trash Pedalboards, Pigtronix Effect Pedals, Baroni Lab, Clayton guitar picks and Dunlop electronics. Furthermore, Sonar Lights had the honor of having their entire album Here We Are included in all major streaming services Pandora, Apple Music and Amazon.
