Joy Dennis

Joy Dennis is a singer, songwriter and poet from Rockledge, FL. She relocated to Jacksonville, FL as a toddler and quickly developed an ear for music by listening to her grandmother play piano over the years and participating in several choruses and choirs throughout her youth.

As years passed on, and with an entrepreneurial spirit in tow, Joy was able to pave her way on to the local music scene through open mic venues and self-produced concert events in the heart of Jacksonville, FL. These events allowed her the opportunity to begin honing her live performances by opening for dozens of popular national acts from Montell Jordan to Jazmine Sullivan.

In 2010, Joy finally turned her very private poetry into her debut R&B/ Soul/ Jazz album, “Music Is“, which was released in May of that year. The first single from that album was fan favorite “He Awaits”, followed by the Bessie Smith and Dinah Washington remake, “Electric Chair”, which paid homage to the blues and jazz greats.

The following year, Joy began polishing the craft of video directing by writing and producing two full length music videos for her singles. Having a background in psychology and social work, Joy wanted to create two videos that when viewed simultaneously, revealed a strong underlying message of awareness to the Domestic Violence epidemic that occurs in many African American household across the United States.

Since the release of “Music Is“, Joy has traveled with and opened for Variety Entertainment’s Funk Fest Concerts which features acts such as Charlie Wilson, Frankie Beverly, Kem, Earth, Wind & Fire, Babyface, Doug E. Fresh, Joe, Ledisi, SWV, Faith Evans and many more.

In 2013, Joy began working on her latest project, “The Listening Party”. The album is Joy’s highly anticipated sophomore follow up to “Music Is” and is slated to be released in the Summer of 2015. The album, (under the Urb Garden Music label), features two discs of never before released tracks, new collaborations, at least one dual release, as well as nearly a dozen new tracks produced by RIAA Certified Platinum producer, songwriter & multi-instrumentalist, J. Dash.

With this new project, Joy boldly explores the fusion of her classic soulful tone with new genres, sounds & rhythms, something of which her current listeners have yet to witness.

Fan favorites “He Awaits” & Electric Chair” from her debut album will also be featured on this latest release. In addition, there is a completely re-imagined version of her previously released song, “Juke Joint”, adding a colorful splash of sensual funk to the track-listing.
