About this concert
015395 64283 info@theherontheatre.com www.theherontheatre.comSALLY BARKER & BROOKS WILLIAMS BIOGThe collaboration between two classy and versatile singer songwriters is something special. There is a spark between two musicians !They met when Brooks was making his latest album ‘My Turn Now’ on which Sally did some guest vocals, there was an instant connection. They have both had a long and varied career which reflects in their repertoire and easy nature of their song writing and music making.Known most recently for her appearance on ‘The Voice’, on which the Leicester lass managed to reduce Tom Jones to tears, Sally has also supported Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, sings with the reformed Sandy Denny’s Fotheringay, all female folk band The Poozies, American Vicki Genfan and new folk/jazz/blues trio IOTA (with Anna Ryder & Marion Fleetwood).Sally’s songwriting influences of folk, jazz, blues and soul and ability to get inside the words on the page and sing them as if you were hearing them for the first time are evidenced on her 2017 album ‘Ghost Girl’, coinciding with her support slot for Fairport Convention’s 50th Anniversary tour.Brooks hails from Statesboro, Georgia, the town made famous by country-blues legend Blind Willie McTell. Ranked in the ‘Top 100 Acoustic Guitarists’, his music is a fusion of blues, old country and a touch of Americana. In addition to his solo work, he is also half of ‘State Of The Union’ with singer-songwriter Boo Hewerdine.Quotes about Sally:“Sally changes the atmosphere in a room when she sings” – (BBC Radio 2’s Chris Evans) “I have to say you sound amazing and angelic” – (Will.i.am)  “That was beautiful. Sally makes the room stop.” – (Kylie Minogue)“her enormous vocal range and stupendous control can relax or rouse at will – she coaxes her voice from that of a mild modern English rose to raw throated blues.” – (Edinburgh Fringe Festival review)Quotes about Brooks:“Fans of the music of Ry Cooder and JJ Cale will definitely cherish this album [My Turn Now].” – (Keys And Chords)“He’s a lovely player, a lovely singer, and a great writer. The real thing.” – (Martin Simpson)“How soulful a solo guitarist can be when he has talent, taste and astonishing technique.” – (Blues Revue)“Brooks really rocks, stirring up soulful Americana, full-on blues and tasty rootsy grooves.” – (fRoots)

I’ve seen Sally perform several times and each time it’s been vocal perfection. Her voice is truly fabulous and I have no idea why she didn’t win “The Voice” all those years ago. This concert was as expected - brilliant songs and a voice that is incomparable. Her ability on the guitar matches her vocal ability - perfection . First time I’d been to the Bolehall Manor Club and I thought it was a super venue . I’ll look out for further gigs at that place .

Sally Barker Biography

The 'Voice' that made Sir Tom Jones cry

Whether singing asTom Jones' finalist on BBC TV's The Voice, the songs of Sandy Denny in the reformed Fotheringay, revered fem-folk group The Poozies or as a solo artist supporting Bob Dylan, Robert Plant and Richard Thompson Sally Barker brings any song gloriously to life.
A singer/songwriter whose back catalogue encompasses folk, jazz, blues and soul, she reduced Sir Tom Jones to tears as he mentored her through to the final of The Voice 2014.
She remains fiercely independent and true to her craft either solo (Feb 2017 CD 'GHOST GIRL') or as a duo with Vicki Genfan (Sept 2017 CD 'IN THE SHADOW OF A SMALL MOUNTAIN') or, finally, as a member of fab all-female trio I O T A (with Anna Ryder and Marion Fleetwood).

A truly captivating performer as much at home in a folk club as on national television.

"Sally changes the atmosphere in a room when she sings" (BBC Radio 2's Chris Evans).
