More Info:

Rican Structing is a New England based effort to aid the cities of Moca and Adjuntas Puerto Rico, as they rebuild after the devastation of Hurricane Maria. Spend an intimate evening with Grammy nominated, Puerto Rico artist Pedro Capo at La Fabrica in Cambridge, MA. Profits from this evening will be used to purchase community-sized water filtration systems and portable solar generator systems (see below for more information) that are desperately needed. SEAREI (Seacoast Area Renewable Energy Initiative) a 501(c)3 non-profit is the lead agency coordinating the Rican Structing efforts. SEAREI is collaborating with community leaders in Moca & Adjuntas Puerto Rico, Visible Goods, Inc. and many other individuals and organizations.

Moca is a city of 40,000 located in northwest Puerto Rico. Adjuntas is a small mountainside town of 19,000 located in central-midwest Puerto Rico. The scale of destruction caused by Hurricane Maria is massive. Recovery and reconstruction are slow and difficult. Over 100 days after Maria made landfall there are some areas that have mostly returned to normal, but the majority of the residents remain with sporadic or no electricity and difficulty getting medical treatment. Access to Food, fuel and clean water remain a constant concern. The latest estimates are calling for a multi-year recovery.

SEAREI, working in collaboration with Visible Good, Inc. will send the citizens of Moca & Adjuntas Puerto Rico solar electricity generators, Rapid Deployment Module (RDM) shelters and Community Life Straw Water Filtration Systems. The generators are portable 30, 90 & 330 watt systems, which can power electronics, fans and small dorm-sized refrigerators and more. The water filtration systems will be stationed at schools, churches, municipal buildings, and hospitals so that people can fill clean jugs with filtered, bacteria-free water. The RDM Shelters are small modular buildings designed to provide safe, insulated, securable, semi-permanent shelter in disaster-stricken areas. They are comprised of just 40-odd pieces that can be shipped and assembled quickly and easily without the use of special tools or skilled labor.

Cost to purchase, administer and deliver each individual system:

Rapid Deployment Module (RDM) Shelter $9,500.00
Community Life Straw Water Purification System $445.00
330 Watt Solar Generator $1,750.00
90 Watt Solar Generator $700.00
30 Watt Solar Generator $400.00
