About this concert
WILD PINKADAM TORRESMINOR CHARACTERS----------WILD PINK released their debut EP, Good Life, in the Summer of 2015. It was a brief but memorable introduction to the band's brand of introspective indie pop/rock. After numerous tours in support of Good Life the band hunkered down with Justin Pizzoferrato (Dinosaur Jr., Speedy Ortiz, Kindling, Sweet John Bloom) to record new songs. Just two releases later (including a debut LP) and WILD PINK are one of those wonderfully rare bands that sounds instantly familiar upon first listen. Yet trying to draw parallels to their influences or similar bands proves to be incredibly difficult. These are deeply personal songs about freedom, or lack thereof, about growing up and leaving your youth behind yet still clinging to those sacred scars that we hold dear. There is a sincerity that echoes throughout these songs that is intoxicating and speaks to what makes the band so special. WILD PINK choose the road less traveled and it has served them well.ADAM TORRES’ debut album Nostra Nova was initially self-released in 2006, and over the years grew from being a closely-held, sleeper favorite in the close-knit music scene of Athens, OH (wherehe lived at the time), to earning “cult classic” status. Upon its 2015 re-release, the album received praise from outlets including The A.V. Club, Stereogum (“a stunner”), and VICE (“beautiful, melancholy tunes”).MINOR CHARACTERS kick things off with a mixture of well-crafted songwriting, pop sensibility, and a rare earnestness that’s difficult to overlook. The resulting combination is a carefully composed sound with classic pop leanings that ends up sounding both familiar and fresh. Coming together through a theme of escapism in December 2010, the band's sun-drenched tracks sound mighty fresh when coupled with these chilly winter nights. Uniquely retro without being a total throwback, MINOR CHARACTERS are set to release their third LP, We Can't Be Wrong, on April 6th, so expect to hear some new tunes here tonight.

Minor Characters Biography

Minor Characters is an indie act from Chicago whose music is a mixture of well-crafted songwriting, pop sensibility, and a rare earnestness that’s difficult to overlook. The resulting combination is a carefully composed sound with classic pop leanings that ends up sounding both familiar and fresh. The brainchild of the former folk singer-songwriter, Andrew Pelletier, Minor Characters was born of the desire to grow beyond performing solo, to create a more engaging and further reaching experience. Pelletier, Shelby Pollard (guitar), Adam Wayne (bass), and James Ratke (drums), bonded quickly over their love for Fleetwood Mac, Grizzly Bear, and Blonde Redhead. Since their inception in early 2011, Minor Characters has released their debut self-titled EP, played sold-out shows with Dinosaur Jr., Craig Finn of The Hold Steady, and Portugal The Man. Along with becoming an important player in the Chicago music scene, Minor Characters was invited to play at SXSW by revered music blog Brooklyn Vegan, as well as Columbia College Chicago’s record label, AEMMP Records. Minor Characters are gearing up for 2014, as they will release an LP in early spring along with subsequent touring. The album was recorded in Fall Creek, WI at April Base Studio with Beau Sorenson and will be mixed in Portland, OR in January. Expect big things from this band in the coming year. Brand new music coming soon!
