Summer Youth Biography

We all know the saying, ‘When one door closes, another one opens’. This couldn’t apply more than it does for Kevin Fletcher, ex-singer of the now defunct pop/rock band, Uh Huh Baby Yeah.

“UHBY was an enormous part of my life for over a decade,” Fletcher reflects, “so it was a bittersweet moment bringing it to an end; but, this is in my blood. It’s what I was born to do.” And born to do it he is. Hard on the heels of the UHBY break-up, Fletcher came together with a fresh line-up of stellar musicians to bring his newest musical vision to life; Summer Youth.

“It’s all about new beginnings. We’re young. We’re hopeful. That’s what I think about when I hear the name,” says Kevin, who made it a point to connect with musicians he’d never had the chance to play with before – and it’s this formula that gives Summer Youth the edge it needs.

Summer Youth is Kevin Fletcher (vocals), Chris Doty (drums), Bones Armstrong (bass), Chris Goins (guitar), and Joseph Brock (guitar). When asked why he reunited with founding members and UHBY-alums Armstrong and Brock, Kevin says, “The foundation was laid with Doty, Goins, and me. Once we realized this was going to be a thing, we only wanted the best guys for the job. It took some time, but Bones and Joe were it. No question.”

So, what does Summer Youth sound like? Influences from bands Glassjaw, letlive., Saosin, and Incubus certainly shine through. Early 2000s post-hardcore bands such as Lorene Drive and Emanuel are also noticeable, but in no way completely nail down the sound.

Their first single, “Chaos Magick” will release April, 2017.
