The Big Comfy Bookshop proudly presents the award winning acoustic evening 'Comfy & Acoustic'.
Intimate performances from the best UK (and beyond) musicians covering folk, Americana, singer-songwriters and roots

Oka Vanga
Oka Vanga are Angela Meyer & William Cox, an award winning UK Folk & Roots duo. Whether singing, playing guitar, ukulele or mandolin, this husband and wife duo have a strong set of original songs and well known tunes guaranteed to win the hearts and minds of any audience. (FATEA)

Originally from Cape Town in South Africa, Angie is the creative driving force in the partnership and has been described as having considerable vocal and songwriting talents by fRoots. Performing at acoustic clubs and festivals Oka Vanga was born after Will and Angie met by chance at an open mic night. A short E.P of original guitar instrumentals became their calling card and in 2013 they were invited to represent the UK at the International Madame Guitar Festival in Italy alongside Clive Carroll. Shortly thereafter they released their debut album Pilgrim to critical acclaim. Described by Songlines as beautifully pure, it was awarded Best Instrumental Album by FATEA magazine in a strong category including both Kathyrn Tickell and The Hut People.

Their much anticipated second album Dance of the Copper Trail has been hailed as their best work yet. Released in 2017 on Crazy Bird Records, it is described by Songlines as profound, concise and meticulous with Angela's lyrics displaying a talent for conveying emotion and joy. Songs of faith and superstition, love and loss, death and everlasting hope are all seamlessly woven together and showcase all the manner of musical influences. Described by fRoots as distinctly classy and an album of serious accomplishment and musicality, it has secured Angie and Will a place in the hearts and minds of many fans with what RnR describe as its up-beat feel and Celtic-deep universality. Featuring both traditional and original material, the album includes rising star Oliver Copeland on Double Bass.

Tilly Moses
Tilly Moses is a mandolin player and singer songwriter from Suffolk, now based in York. She has been performing all over the country since the age of just 13, supporting some of the best-loved folk acts in the UK, and recently released her long awaited debut album Alight & Adrift, to incredible critical acclaim.

Tilly's carefully crafted songs address subjects as diverse as climate change, gender inequality, apathy, love, and leaving home, and she delivers them with an extraordinarily powerful, passionate vocal style, and a colourful stage presence. 'Tilly possesses an uncanny ability to communicate her messages and narratives with total conviction and an immediacy and intellectual as well as emotional depth.'
- FATEA Magazine

The new album, Alight & Adrift, features the talents of many extraordinary musicians, including BBC Folk Award Winner Sam Kelly, Mercury Prize Nominee Kit Downes, and BBC Folk Award nominated band Mawkin's James Delarre, amongst others. It has been praised by critics and audiences alike and is already a firm favourite in the folk world and beyond

Charlie Hole
Born and raised in the coastal town of Bournemouth, UK, Charlie Hole's story began when he heard Damien Rice's 'O' at the tender age of 14. From that first listen, his desire to reach the same emotional depths became clear; realising his ability to create emotive and fearless tracks, learning and evolving throughout.
After a chance meeting with the well-respected guitarist and producer, Jim Cregan (Rod Stewart, Katie Melua, Family), the pair began working closely together, with Jim mentoring Charlie and teaching him about the world of songwriting while always pushing him to develop his own style and sound.
Finding comfort in beautifully crafted words over effortless melodies, Charlie Hole is one of the most exciting young singer songwriters around.
Coined by Rod Stewart as an emerging talent with a gift for writing 'beautiful songs', Charlie has always been destined for great things. With a brave and honest voice, tackling relatable subject matters for all audiences, Charlie Hole shares his personal stories of broken dreams and lost love in the pursuit of happiness through his powerful and commanding songwriting.
