► INTRO: Heart Beat is proud to present yet another legend from the Techno scene our headliner is part of, evolving and developing since the beginning of the 1990’s as a producer, DJ, promoter and general creative, Steve Bicknell is his name, often mentioned when you talk about techno. Whether you refer to his renowned and beloved club night LOST (that span for over 25 years) or one of his two labels - it is clear that Bicknell plays a very vital part in the game and we are bringing him to Saigon for one more night of Techno madness and mayhem with support from local Technophiles 1DAN aka Dan Rodgers back in the booth with Heart Beat founder Chris Wolter since his closing set after Sigha. Chris just released the first EP on Pink Room Records last April. Expect Steve Bicknell to play his blistering straight to the point techno, with surely alien elements piercing through the beats. And he creates the feeling that that he blends these elements with an intoxicating raw ferociousness taming them perfectly. Vast cavernous deep techno is the main focus here leading you into busier more brainy territories.

► NEWS: Luke Slater, Steve Bicknell and Function (AKA Dave Sumner) are kicking off their LSD project with an EP called Process. The 12-inch is the first music we've seen from the techno trio, though the project dates back as far as 2016, when they performed together at Berghain in Berlin. Ostgut Ton calls their approach to techno "lysergic machine music," adding that it "accentuates hallucinatory and shapeshifting sonic elements.” Slater, Bicknell and Sumner have marked the release of Process with two live sets—one at Reaktor ADE in Amsterdam on October 22nd, and another at Berghain on New Year's Day 2018. The connection between the three producers goes back much further than 2016. Bicknell and Slater have played alongside and remixed each other since the '90s, while Sumner helped produce some of Slater's L.B. Dub Corp material in recent years.

RECORDING ARTIST ON Ostgut Ton, 6dimensions, Infrastructure NY
and many, many more.
Based in Berlin but originally from London, where Steve’s sonic journey started as a teenager, being heavily influenced by dub music, warehouse parties, the fresh sound of the
pirate radio stations, reggae and even blues parties. The acid house craze hit him in 1988 and had a massive impact on the young DJ, leading him to the next natural step of starting to write music of his own. Together with Sheree Rashit, Bicknell started the LOST parties and he is proud to say that many of the DJ’s and acts they supported via the party are now seen as key figures in today’s world of techno. LOST was also the name Steve took on for his first recordings released in 1990. When launching his first imprint Cosmic Records three years later (also co-run with Rashit) a new musical shift took place. Cosmic has 40 releases to date in its excellent back catalogue, where almost half of these carries Steve Bicknell’s name as producer. In 1996 a special LOST “division” was set up within the label – a
series of 12”s were released, containing material that Bicknell had produced with the club’s dance floor in mind, both as “secret weapons” but also as a celebration of the club. From the first label
two more imprints spawned; Clubtracks, focusing on more Chicago house-sounding productions, and ID(entity) created to release hidden aliases’ of well established artists affiliated with the Cosmic label and LOST nights.

Looking at Steve’s early work it is clear to see he has succeeded to still keep the same vibrant energy and curiosity yet sharpening and transforming it into something fresh and current for today’s big room techno spaces. His DJ-sets shares a lot of similarities with his productions, tying both these elements together.Vast cavernous deep techno is the main focus here leading you into busier more brainy territories.

Aside from his latest project LSD (a collaboration with longtime friends Luke Slater and David Sumner) released on Ostgut Ton in November 2017, he also activated his second label 6dimensions in 2016. Releasing both his own as well as other artists material, Steve describes the label being “an exploration into balance and imbalance of the human mind’s natural make-up, of love, fear, joy, hatred, boredom and sexuality”. Seeing it being something more than just a record label - an outlet for creatives, a platform for expression without boundaries, presented and revisited in various creative mediums whether they be music, installations, events, audio stories, soundscapes, visual art or performance”.

►1DAN After cutting his teeth on the Leeds techno scene back in the mid 90's, Dan moved to London and was enveloped by the deep sounds of the Heart & Soul parties, connections were made through the legendary record store Eukotech and soon Dan was playing at London’s finest underground parties.
Fast forward; relocation to Brighton and the infamous free party scene with Positive Soundsystem and Warm System.

After many years of honing his sound and learning the craft, his first release appeared in 2011 on respected UK underground deep house label; Atmospheric Existence Recordings. This was followed up by a rash of releases on the Maltese label Batti Batti with support from DJ's such as Jus-Ed, Huxley, Jay Tripwire, Fred P and many more.

Aside from solo studio work, collaborations with Bittersuite's Jon 'Griffin' Gray have resulted in a clutch of releases under their Tales Ov Rossi guise, returning to Atmospheric Existence Recordings and with the latest release marking the launch of UK label DeepSystems. Close working relationships continued with 1DAN remixing the latest Bittersuite track, These Thoughts for UK based outfit Situationism, released at the tail end of 2017.

When in the booth, 1DAN’s hybrid DJ style moves from blistering techno to obscure deep house, providing listeners with unique selections that challenge the mind and feet.
