Holy Motors

The outfit of five from Tallinn, Estonia has been making music for about ten years: a dreamy, hidden nostalgia somewhere between dream pop, slowcore and shoegaze. Their debut “Slow Sundown” (2018) already drew comparisons from Mazzy Star to Cigarettes After Sex to Julee Cruise, and in fact it also plays to the standard of these legendary icons of the genre. That said, Holy Motors have formed a sound identity of their own that is pure bliss to submerge oneself in. What French writer and philosopher Jean Baudrillard wrote about the stretching of deserts and the levelling of time is transformed by this quintet into a dark, yearning, romantic trip through their own worlds of memory. Those who’ve witnessed the rare live performances of Holy Motors report experiences bordering on the enrapturing. So seeing them before it’s too late is a must.
