The Electric Lodge
1416 Electric Ave, Venice, CA 90291
Harmony and ensemble singing skills are required in choirs, musical theater, for backup singers in a band, on recording sessions, or even in a simple duo. If singing confidently with others is something you have been wanting to learn, or if you want to improve your harmony skills, or if you’re a lead singer who finds harmony singing challenging, this workshop will help you: >> Find your part in a simple harmonic context and sing it confidently >> “Blend” better with others (and understand what that means) >> Hold a harmony part when someone starts to sing a melody against you Celia Chavez brings her passion for group singing, love of harmony, and many years of experience as a professional touring and session vocalist, section leader, songwriter and vocal arranger to this workshop. Whether you sing for a living or for personal enjoyment, you will gain tools to strengthen your harmony skills in this playful, non-judgmental setting. This course does not require reading skills – we will use our voices to build harmonies - but it will be helpful to have some singing experience and basic awareness of music theory. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: In recent years CELIA CHAVEZ has sung with major artists including P!nk, Seal, Melody Gardot, Julia Fordham and Brandon Flowers of the Killers. Celia currently tours internationally with Enrique Iglesias as his romantic duet partner, while also touring on her own to promote her most recent EP release, “Dare to Love.” Celia gained a firm musical foundation through at least a dozen years of childhood piano lessons, school musicals and choir including the women's jazz vocal ensembles in both high school and college, and goofing off in stairwells singing girl group style with her besties. Her activity in her hometown Seattle’s music scene led to an invitation to be a board member of the Seattle Composers Alliance, where she helped galvanize the professional composer community into a resource for networking, career guidance, and focused, relevant workshops. During this time, Celia entered the studio session world, co-wrote songs for film, and began vocal arranging on fast-paced recording sessions for radio ID producers, IQ Beats. Her relocations to New York City and Los Angeles led to more recording sessions, regular work as a backup singer and the release of five recordings to date as a performing songwriter and bandleader. Celia is thrilled to share her joy and passion for harmony as well as her experience of how it works in this new workshop. More information and samples of her work are available at www.celiachavez.com.
