Duet for Theremin and Lap Steel Biography
Duet for Theremin and Lap Steel is a duo comprised of Frank Schultz (lap steel guitar) and Scott Burland (theremin), a pair that has been entertaining audiences with their long-form, drone-based improvisations (“the product of two minds sharing a single headspace and letting the music drive...in a graceful, slow-motion crash.” —Creative Loafing) since 2006.
In each unique, organic performance, these two musicians spontaneously sculpt the experience “of two untethered astronauts, with a strange and elegant sonic choreography” (Chattanooga Pulse). Over the course of twelve years of playing together, Frank and Scott have delivered “not so much distinct sounds as evolving eddies of sound, vapors of tones that develop and transform gracefully” (Columbia Free Times) to not only their hometown of Atlanta, GA, but also destinations as wide-ranging as Paris, France, New York City, and Lafayette, Indiana. Their music, combined with 16mm abstract films projected by fellow Atlantan Robbie Land, promises a one-of-a-kind immersive experience for our audiences.
