Tara Carragher Biography

Adelaide based singer songwriter Tara Carragher combines her love of alt-country and her folk roots as a dynamic and seasoned performer, having toured and recorded in both Australia and the USA. In 2016 she released her new EP 'Wicked World', the follow up to her acclaimed 2012 album 'Big River Crossing', recorded in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The title track to her new EP ‘Wicked World’ has already reached number two on AMRAP’s national charts this year, receiving airplay throughout Australia. Raw, honest, captivating and skillfully executed, her music features collaborations with American artists, the award winning New Mexican musician CW Ayon, and highly respected guitarist CR Humphrey from the Mississippi blues duo Old Gray Mule. Tara has leant her voice to live performances by award winning singer songwriter Kelly Menhennett and Wisconsin native, Hayward Williams amongst others. She has recorded vocals on the most recent album “All the Wandering” by South Australian mainstays The Yearlings and recorded and performed her take on Rose Tattoo's 'We Can't Be Beaten' for the AMC Yesterday’s Heroes project in 2016 with rock guitar royalty Rob Riley (Rose Tattoo). In 2012 her adventurous spirit and passion for Americana music led her to the USA where she attended the New Orleans Traditional Jazz workshop, performed at Austin Texas’ most famous venue: Antone’s, and recorded her debut album. Tara was nominated for ‘female vocalist of the year’ in the Derringer’s Music Awards 2012, and was selected as one of twenty singer/songwriters in Australia and New Zealand to attend the prestigious CMAA Country Music Academy in 2015, where she was mentored by musicians Kevin Bennett (The Flood), Karl Broadie, and Golden Guitar winners Lyn Bowtell, Tamara Stewart, and Roger Corbett (The Bushwackers). “Adelaide singer-songwriter Tara Carragher is one of our finest folk artists” - Rip it Up “the ear-pleasing sounds of Carragher and Wicked World…a wondrously good listen” - Spreading the Seed www.taracarragher.com
