hilary hahn is always stellar in her perfect balance of genuine passion & virtuosic mastery of her instrument. the nielsen piece leans more towards the familiarity of the romantic period than the modernity of the 20th century. the phil, as always, performs impeccably. the truly mind-expanding thing, for me, about this evening of music was the u.s. premier of "king tide" by the swedish composer anders hillborg. a subtle, organic, richly textured, tecnicolored journey.... nothing short of transcendent.
