Legendary MCs Yasiin Bey (formerly Mos Def) and Talib Kweli have each created an impressive amount of work. Kweli released his eighth solo record, Radio Silence, in November, and Bey has stayed busy on the airwaves and acting in dozens of movies. Under the moniker Black Star, the socially conscious rappers and activists released a single record, Mos Def and Talib Kweli Are Black Star, in the late ’90s that garnered praise for its insightful comments on black culture and for countering the negative gangsta-rap rhymes of the time. Though the Ogden show is listed as a stop on Kweli’s Radio Silence tour, Black Star will be performing (Denver’s the only city to receive that gift). Outside of a few scattered shows, it’s rare to see Bey and Kweli together; combined with Bey’s hints at retirement, that makes seeing Black Star live the holy grail for hip-hop heads.

The Forum

Won't be returning to The Forum. They didn't publicize when Black Star was due on stage and the sound was awful; balance was all wrong. That said when Black Star did eventually come on, they brought energy and enthusiasm. However having waiting 3 hours for them to show, I couldn't really enjoy the show as much as I'd have liked.
