BEAST Biography

BEAST is the name for several groups listed below which include , a Montreal based experimental rock group, an European rock group, and a Japanese quasi-Visual kei band with some tracks produced by Yoshiki of X JAPAN fame.

1) From Montréal, BEAST is an experimental union between the powerful and sensual voice of Beatrice Bonifassi and the dirty, in your face, beats of composer and drummer Jean-Phi Goncalves, both as Betty and Jean-Phi. After having wonderfully performed on the 2004 Oscar Winner Sound Track – Les Triplettes de Belleville – Betty has joined since then her voice and her songwriter skills to DJ Champion to create, once again, a major impact on the local, national and international music industry. Betty’s uniquely textured voice charmed and inspired Jean-Phi, leader of Montreal’s new sensation band, Plaster. For his part, Jean-Phi has made eclecticism his own speciality. Lead drummer and original electro-jazz composer, he has taken part to many projects. From Lauryn Hill (Fugees) to Jean-Pierre Ferland(Jaune 2005), Ariane Moffatt (albums/shows), Pierre Lapointe (La Forêt Des Mal-Aimés), Daniel Bélanger, to name a few, Jean-Phi has always known how to strongly impress with his own musical touch and is a sought after remixer and producer in this part of the world.

2) Attempting a gothic sound comparable to mid-period Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bryan Gregory’s first post-Cramps project, the aptly titled Beast, was nothing like his old group. The Beast’s three 45s in the early-’80s were of mixed quality, and Gregory soon faded into obscurity. His three bandmates, however, moved to the UK and forged ahead as the Veil, releasing an underrated album of dark poptones like “Manikin,” “Twist” (both singles) and “Love in a Dying World” (a Beast remake). Vocalist Andrella’s wispy voice and quasi-Egyptian shtick manage to charm even when some of the material does not. [ Greg Fasolino - trouserpress.com]. Gregory resurfaced in 1982 with Beast, a death-rock quartet fronted by singer Andrella Christopher; heavy on candle-lit atmospherics and midtempo dirges, Beast released one full-length album and undertook U.S. and European tours, but disbanded by 1984.

3) Beast is a rock band from Colorado that made two albums in 1969 and 1970.

4) Beast is a hardcore band from Salinas, California with members from The Wrath and No Truce.

5) Beast was a goa/psytrance collaboration between Simon Posford & Sean Williams in the late 90's.
