'In Silver Halides'

The new album out 23rd February 2018

Lowpines is the recording name of British songwriter and producer Oli Deakin. Initially starting out as a series of lo-fi phone recordings, overdubbed with multiple layers of reverb-soaked instruments, Lowpines recordings quickly developed into several Eps, released on ltd edition cassette over the past few years.

Having caught the ear of BBC DJs in the UK (inc Huw Stephens, Lauren Laverne and Steve Lamacq), receiving accolades in the press, and regularly soundtracking numerous US TV shows, the first full-length Lowpines record 'In Silver Halides' will be released on Adventure Club Records on Feb 23rd 2018.

'In Silver Halides' was written in rural England through the winter, and recording began the following spring, in a greenhouse, during an unseasonal heatwave. The heat and the bright sunlight made for intense recording sessions, interrupted by both equipment and artist regularly overheating. Songs filled with images of frozen landscapes, and isolation, took a new direction in the stifling heat. Opting to record with the doors and windows thrown open, much of the early demo recordings are filled with ambient noises of the surrounding countryside, echoing hauntingly through expansive reverb.

Additional recording sessions took place in at Bella Union Studios in London, with in-house producer IggyB (The Duke Spirit, John Grant, Spiritualized). Oli's brother Jamie Deakin joined to record the drums, tracking the whole album in a day. Later on, flute parts were played by Jesse Chandler (Midlake/BNQT/Mercury Rev). Oli then took the recordings to Brooklyn where it was was mixed with Grammy award-winning producer Ted Young (Kurt Vile, Sonic Youth, Rolling Stones).

Outside of Lowpines, Oli Deakin has been involved in a number of other bands and recording projects in recent years. A long-term collaboration with Lyla Foy (WALL), includes her Sub Pop debut 'Mirrors The Sky' which he co-wrote/produced as well as new works in progress. He was a founder member of fuzz-pop band Bear Driver, and has done recent mixing and production work with Toothless, Germans, Swimming Bell and Dream Giant.

SWIMMING BELL THE GOLDEN HEART

Debut release from Brooklyn-based Swimming Bell co-produced by Oli Deakin (Lowpines)

The Golden Heart is a personal, intimate affair punctuated by picturesque narratives and soulful performance. There is a timelessness about both the subject matter and delivery. ! The sort of voice that calls through the unfamiliar night and guides you back home.

Swimming Bell is the solo project of Brooklyn-based folk singer Katie Schottland, who has spent the last two years playing in various bands. She began to write her own songs after she broke her foot in the fall of 2015. Katie learned some basic chords by printing out a chord sheet to learn to play Neil Young's Harvest Moon. Having had no musical training she approached writing melodies and progressions by ear, and with the intention to develop harmonies.

The Golden Heart was recorded in London at the home studio of producer Oli Deakin, who writes and records his own work under the name Lowpines, and as producer has worked with Toothless, Lyla Foy, Germans

Katie and Oli met in New York in the fall of 2016 and they immediately knew each other. After hearing some Lowpines music, the lo-fi, layered, and intricately hushed lyrics, Katie knew they'd work well together. Katie travelled to London in spring of 2017 and they began mapping out each song on guitar and voice, before adding layers of different instruments, vocals and ambient sounds. Katie played many of the instruments herself, looking to find a unique voice in the parts they came up with together.

Nicolas Burrows (formerly 'Glaciers') releases his debut album under the new pseudonymn F E L L, swapping a lo-fi approach for the studio treatment, working with producer Andy Ramsay (Stereolab), Jorgen Skjulstad (Center of the Universe) and Thomas Meidell (Metronomicon). Subtle and expansive arrangements full of understated guitars, shimmering organs and dark synths weave around Nicolas' distinctive vocals, reverberating with echoes of Timber Timbre, Villagers and Little Wings.

An artist, illustrator and multi-instrumentalist, Nicolas hails from Blackpool but is currently based in East London. Developing an intimate and fragile live show and relentlessly writing and recording over the last ten years, 'There Still Are Mysteries' is his third album proper (the first as F E L L), and sees him intensifying a long-held lyrical focus on natural wonder & magic to create an undulating and lush 38 minutes of song: a perambulatory meditation on wonder, on not knowing, on magic, myth and mystery...
