Glass Twin Biography

Primary band members Kevin Cornell and Marshall O'Leary released two acclaimed full length records (Facing You, You Are Here) as the core of the Richmond band Marionette. After a few lineup changes, the band re-emerged in 2013 under the new moniker of Glass Twin, calling upon fellow local musician Karanja Burke to expand the ensemble. Karanja, a veteran in his own right, came from the Blacksburg area, where he was a member of the local bands No Time and True Sound. Melding the farthest edges of psychedelia with elements of Krautrock, shoegaze, and jazz, Glass Twin glides effortlessly in between moments of raw indie spirit and subtle, sweet ambience. While consciously avoiding customary rock idioms, they often elude classification, yet a cryptic assortment of influences still lurks. The melodies of Brian Wilson come to mind, as do disembodied keyboard freak-outs, a la early Pink Floyd. Burke’s guitar work sometimes recalls the intricate lines of The Church; at other times, the jagged, angular jabs of Joy Division can be heard. Glass Twin embodies reverent psych redux placed in the 21st century, as if these influences were somehow transported to the current day. It is clear, after witnessing the band’s emotional performances, that Glass Twin is comfortable and at home on stage. They are ever focused on pushing themselves to create and expand past their already genre-defying brand of art-meets-music. Glass Twin, formerly Marionette, has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with a decorated list of artists, including The National, Tortoise, tUnE-yArDs, The Whigs, Miniature Tigers, Handsome Furs, U.S. Royalty, Future Islands, and Hotel Lights. Glass Twin also played at the CBGB Festival in 2013, along with acts such as Ginger Baker, Dale Earnheardt Jr. Jr., and My Morning Jacket. Neo-Psychedelic rock / formerly Marionette from Richmond, VA
