The Joycelyn Owens Band Biography
Native of New Orleans, Joy grew up in the length and breadth of gospel music. She and her siblings, the Faithful Stars Of Joy Gospel Quartet, under the direction of her father, the late Reverend Herbert Owens sang in churches, theaters and halls across the gulf coast, singing in praise of the Lord. After college, she continued her Gospel singing, but broadened her scope with what she calls “R&B Soul” singing on cruise ships along the east coast up to Canada. She was recognized as an up and coming artist on BET’s Sunday’s Best. Joy evacuated to Houston during Katrina but later traveled with Leandria Johnson who was a Sunday’s Best winner. Joy eventually moved back home to New Orleans and sings regularly on Frenchman St. with American singer and guitarist based in New Orleans, Walter “Wolfman” Washington recognized Joy’s talent after her first feature with him at Tipitina's and since then features Joy on various venues locally and on tour.
