You Win Again Gravity Biography

Is Windsor really famous for anything? Sure, the queen lives there sometimes, and by extension the castle's pretty impressive, but aside from that...? What I'm getting at is this: a sleepy Berkshire town with occasional visiting monarchs is not where you'd expect to find British guitar music's next big hope, yet it's the place You Win Again Gravity call home. "I had to make them my featured artist of the week, they absolutely floored me. They aren't just good, they have the potential to be enormous." - Alex Baker, Kerrang Radio Friends since childhood, vocalist Jack Jennings, drummer James Mackenzie and guitarists Dan Dreelan and Johnny Bastable grew up playing music together under various names and styles, going through a seemingly endless revolving door of bass players. Finally, they found Andy Janson, settled on the name You Win Again Gravity (a Zap Brannigan quote from band-favourite Futurama), and got serious. "This is the sound of post-hardcore music growing up...I guess we'll need to find a more eloquent name for it now." - A&R Factory 'Serious' amounted to nothing short of a quantum leap in songwriting, their bludgeoning early post hardcore learning to share sonic space with soothing melodic sections and soft, ambient swells. They perfected this forumla across a couple of EPs (2015s 'Let Go Lightly' and 2016s 'What's Left of the Distance'), before hitting Folkestone's Hidden Track Studios with producer Oz Craggs (Mallory Knox, Neck Deep, Feed the Rhino) and laying down what would become 2017s 'Anyonymity', an 8 track masterwork of light and shade. The band's influences – from post rock pioneers Oceansize to contemporary giants like Deftones – still shine through, but they're just a small part of a much larger and more original tapestry. It opens with the high-octane punch of 'Phonetics', and after a clutch of potential singles it closes with the gargantuan seven minute epic of the title track. “This is a superb debut from one of the most exciting, interesting and diverse new bands around. “ - Gig Radar First single 'Grace and Focus' immediately came to the attention of alternative radio, playlisted by Kerrang, Total Rock, and numerous regional stations. The former's Alex Baker gave the track its debut, immediately named the band his 'Featured Artist of the Week', and aired the song for four consecutive weeks. Punktastic premiered the video, and positive reviews of the mini album came flooding in. “An addictive album, a masterclass in songwriting” wrote Indiependent. “Stunning...a style that is unique to them”, said Noizze. “A record that will sell itself” was Listen Here's take. “We can't wait to see what they do next. One of Berkshire's most promising unsigned acts.” - BBC Introducing Next comes the assault on the live circuit the band have been preparing for. Previous slots alongside Thank You Scientist and As Cities Burn have led to the band being among the first wave of artists announced for the UK's famous Tech-Fest '18, and more festivals, all dayers and touring are in the pipeline. Heavy enough for the metalheads, technical enough for the prog crowd, melodic enough for the indie kids. 2018 will be You Win Again Gravity's year. "You Win Again Gravity offer the beauty of alternative rock next to the brutality of modern prog-rock and it’s wonderful to hear." – live review, Metalmouth youwinagaingravity@hotmail.co.uk www.facebook.com/youwinagaingravity www.soundcloud.com/youwinagaingravity https://open.spotify.com/artist/3g1c53kNshIWfmwzqykjPs @YWAGband
