I'm so thrilled to be welcoming another of my heroes, Ian Shaw! We first met when Ian kindly came as the special guest at a Joni Mitchell concert I organised at the Highbarn in 2007. I'm hoping we can sing a Joni song together at Joanna's Place! Distinctive, creative and original, Ian Shaw is regarded as one of the greatest jazz vocalists in the world, with his exquisite interpretations of popular classics and accomplished original material. Two-time winner of the BBC Jazz Award his talent and technical ability is undeniable, and new album The Theory of Joy sees him at his best as both a singer and musician. His new album, produced by BBC Radio 3's Claire Martin, includes innovative takes on songs by David Bowie, Lionel Bart and his musical heroine Joni Mitchell, along with three newly written tracks. "Shaw's best album yet . . . an early contender for one of the jazz albums of the year." KindofJazz.com A career spanning decades has seen stand out collaborations with artists including Van Morrison, Nigel Kennedy, Kurt Elling and Pete Townsend, along with tours that have taken him to the US, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong and China. With a career that began on the alternative cabaret circuit, Shaw is also renowned for his ability to weave storytelling and comedy into his performances. "Classy jazz singer in his element" The Guardian
