Mighty High Biography

MIGHTY HIGH is a classic-rock inspired punk/metal band from Brooklyn, NY dedicated to getting loaded and playing loud. 2008 marks the 5th anniversary of the band and the release of their long awaited debut CD MIGHTY HIGH…IN DRUG CITY. The album contains 12 songs of explicit drug fueled insanity and captures the high energy “Black Flag Railroad” sound of their deafening live assault. It was recorded with noted engineer Jason LaFarge (Devendra Banhart, Khanate, Angels of Light) at Seizures Palace and released on the band’s own label Mint Deluxe Tapes. Cover art was created by Wayne Bjerke, whose work has also graced the cover of The Dictator's DFFD album and many, many Yes and Jerry Garcia Band denim jackets.

Formed out of necessity by Woody High (guitar/voices), MIGHTY HIGH existed as a band name, concept and denim jacket long before a single note of music was ever played. In fact, when Woody came up with the band name he couldn’t even play guitar. After years of bragging how great his band would be, his friends challenged him to put up or shut up. Tommy Blow (bass), TJ Whippets (guitar) and Jesse D’Stills (drums) share Woody’s blurred vision for a total assault on our dull, sober society.

Over the years MIGHTY HIGH have shared the stage with great bands such as The Saloonatics, Federale, Mess With The Bull, Puny Human, Sabbra Cadabra and The Black Hollies. Most notably, they are the only band to have ever played with both Thor and Valient Thorr. In October, 2007 MIGHTY HIGH had the honor of playing with Steve Mackay (of The Stooges) and his band The Blue Prostitutes. After watching MIGHTY HIGH’s soundcheck Steve said “now that’s some real rock n roll!” There is no higher praise.
