A special concert series featuring four of Hawaii's great jazz piano players in solo performance on the Atherton Studio's Bosendorfer grand piano. Each concert offers an intimate and unique look at the amazing talents we have here in our own backyard. Each show starts at 7:30 and features two sets with an intermission.

Mancini, Mandel, Bronislau Kaper, Leith Stevens, Miles' Louis Malle are all fair game with this jazz master

Saturday, October 21, 2017 - 7:30pm - Rich CrandallThe Hawaii Piano Jazz Masters Series begins with Rich Crandall in a solo concert at the Atherton Studio on the Bosendorfer grand piano. He has performed with greats like Freddie Hubbard, Sadao Watanabe, Frank Morgan, Ernestine Anderson, Trummy Young, Henry Mancini, Ira Sullivan, Rufus Reid, et al. But it’s life in the islands that’s assured Rich’s musical individuality. Rich’s new solo piano album of standards, Buddy Nowhere 1930s, is now released and available online or by mail order.
Saturday, February 3, 2018 - 7:30pm - Joshua KayeJoshua Kaye began playing jazz professionally in his hometown of Columbia, Maryland. He attended St. Mary's College of Maryland on a scholarship. He's played at the Randolph Hotel and at Freud's cafe in Oxford. In San Francisco, Joshua continued his musical studies under jazz pianist Dick Hindman and performed just about daily at the various clubs, hotels, and restaurants in the Bay Area. For several years he played every Saturday at the Sand Dollar in Stinson Beach performing duo jazz with bassist Stu Hamm. He also released his first CD, The Joshua Kaye Quartet - Live in 2004 which featured bassist Robb Fisher, drummer Pete Riso, and percussionist Danilo Paiz who were veterans of the Cal Tjader band.
Saturday, March 10th, 2018 - 7:30pm - Ethan CaponeThe son of a piano teacher and a piano technician, Ethan Capone began his music education early. He developed his technique further at Ithaca College in upstate New York with the head of jazz studies, Steve Brown. Ethan moved to Hawaii in 2007 and has immersed himself in the music scene here. Well-known in jazz circles, Ethan has worked in many jazz ensembles, one of which performed alongside Chris Botti and his quartet. Other jazz musicians he has worked with include, Valery Ponomarev, Bob Albanese, Rob Sheps and Michael Paolo. He has collaborated on several projects with local artist, Henry Kapono, including a performance at the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards with Mick Fleetwood. And he has accompanied Grammy Award Nominated Gospel singer/songwriter, Vashawn Mitchell.

About HPR’s Atherton Performing Arts Studio
The Atherton Studio seats 75 people and is home to a magnificent Bösendorfer concert grand piano. The Studio is available for rent for musical performances, community group meetings, and lectures. It is located in the HPR office and studio complex at 738 Kaheka Street, across from the Honolulu Don Quijote. Metered street parking is available, as are paid lots at the First Hawaiian Bank (Kapiʻolani branch) and in the Pan Am building.
