7:00 PM
Recital Hall - Central Campus - Salem State University
352 Lafayette St, Salem, MA 01970
SSU- Music Faculty Fran Vielma presents a hands-on percussion workshop joined by percussionist Jeickov Vital: an experienced Afro-Venezuelan music researcher and educator; and drummer Daniel Prim: a dedicated performer that incorporates traditional styles from Venezuela into contemporary drum-set playing. Culo e’ Puya and Mina drum ensembles, chants, and a small demonstration of the dances of these styles from Miranda state of Venezuela (central-east coast) will be thoroughly explained. Vielma, Vital, and Prim will also coach attendees while performing these two joyful drumming and chanting ensembles. The material of this workshop is a great source for exercises of time –feeling, melodic rhythms, and polyrhythmic that music students of all levels will take advantage of.
