General Roots Biography

Coming proudly out of North London, UK are General Roots - Hailed as one of the most exciting young reggae acts to come out of Britain in the last 10 years.

Originally formed during school and college, the six piece grew out of their local covers band visage into an original, bass heavy dub outfit; quickly taking the UK club & festival circuit by storm. Since 2011, the band have supported the likes of Gentleman's Dub Club, Submotion Orchestra, The Skints and most recently completed a 21 date UK tour with British 2tone legends The Specials.

The debut album 'Walk Tall' was released in 2016 through Evergreen Recordings, which included some well respected guests from the international reggae community. It featured Dennis Bovell, Top Cat and Horseman laying down a firm statement of the band's love and admiration for the Jamaican sound, whilst creating something fresh, new and original. The eclectic blend of reggae sub genres such as lover's rock, dancehall and classic roots caught the attention of radio DJs around the world, including David 'Ram Jam' Rodigan, Craig Charles and Toddla T, gaining great support across various BBC Radio stations. The 2018 and 2019 EPs 'Showcase' & 'Showcase In Dub' continued to gain substantial support from the UK & European reggae radio community, working this time with UK reggae singer KIKO BUN on both releases.

Since 2014, the band also continue to tour with reggae and pop singer Hollie Cook, having played live in over 15 countries worldwide.
