Frank Cope

20 year-old singer/songwriter Frank Cope combines a variety of genres in his music, ranging from 80s/Indie Pop guitar driven singles (Good To Me) reminiscent of bands like The Cure and Bleachers, to acoustic guitar-infused, electronic hip-hop tracks (Lights On) taking inspiration from artists such as Gorillaz, Twenty One Pilots, Ed Sheeran, etc. And yet, Frank remains a singer-songwriter in every sense of the word. A Southern-California native, Frank's music fuses elements of traditional pop structures and hooks with production elements of indie, rock, and electronic sounds. Releasing two independent EPs this year, garnering over 60,000 streams without support from any management, label, or PR company, shows the power that the independent music scene of Los Angeles and Orange County can have.

In his recently released "Yosemite EP", recorded with Jon O'Brien (Young The Giant, Pacific Air, Listener), the genre-bending can be heard song-by-song. On "Stole My Lover", we hear a Kings of Leon-sized chorus with sharp electronic guitars and energetic four-to-the-floor drums. However, with the very next song, "Somebody's Hero", Frank delivers a insightful singer/songwriter track blended with acoustic guitars and fast-paced rapping. On title track "Yosemite", we hear layered, tribal sounding background vocals mixing with reversed electric-guitar melodies alongside an acoustic guitar riff running through most of the track. Where Frank really shines is his lyrical and storytelling ability, talking of depression and finding purpose through his music (Somebody's Hero), as well as a story of a emotionally scarred, drug-ridden girl he met at a party out in Los Angeles (Lights On).

With over 400 live performances over the past year and a half, contrary to the full-band sound of his records, Frank performs solo, using only an acoustic guitar and loop station to build harmonies, guitar percussion drum-beats, beatboxing, and stacked guitar melodies to deliver an energetic and unique wall of sound recorded on the spot, undoubtedly taking inspiration from Ed Sheeran's live performances. He focuses on crowd interaction during shows, giving them parts to clap, sing, and engage with as the set goes on.

With a debut album on the way, it's exciting to see how Frank Cope's genre-bending sound will evolve as his career, production, and songwriting matures as he continues to grow
