About this concert
With a combined 10 Grammy awards, 1 Tony Award, 1 Academy Award and nearly 500 million album sales, Billy Joel and Elton John are two of the world’s biggest music icons and most celebrated "Piano Men." With Billboard charting hits in the '70s, '80s, '90s and '00s, their music continues to stand the test of time as their live shows continue to sell out arenas from Madison Square Garden to the Hollywood Bowl. With a full 6 piece backing band featuring some of the Twin Cities best session players (including guitar virtuoso Jake Hegna and Scott Dorff on tenor, alto and soprano sax) this show will bring the entire Billy & Elton songbook to life the way it was meant to be heard as you experience a night full of only the biggest hits including “Bennie & The Jets,” “Your Song,” “My Life,” “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant,” “Rocket Man,” “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me,” “Candle in the Wind,” “Crocodile Rock,” “Just the Way You Are,” “Allentown,” “Movin’ Out,” “Tiny Dancer,” “Daniel,” “Only the Good Die Young” and of course no piano-hits show wouldn’t be complete without “Piano Man.” Returning to the Fireside Room for his third set of shows since debuting his “Legends of Country” and “James Taylor - The Hits” show in 2017 is internationally acclaimed pop pianist and vocalist Phil Thompson who continues touring the globe at venues including the MGM Grand Macau in China, Mandalay Bay and Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, and dozens of high-profile sporting events including the US Open Tennis Tournament in NYC for 3 years in a row as well as the Rogers Cup in Toronto and Shanghai Rolex Masters. Phil has also headlined on several specialty-themed cruise events, most recently on the “Wine, Dine & Music Cruise” as spotlighted on USA Today with Kenny Loggins and Three Dog Night. Phil has also served as an opening act for artists including David Foster, Brian McKnight, The Canadian Tenors, Charice, and Clay Aiken to name a few. When not on the road Phil can be seen on WCCO TV as their “Man About Town” highlighting A&E events here in the Twin Cities.
