Teague Alexy Biography

Award-winning Duluth-based musician, author and storyteller Teague Alexy is probably best known for his Americana songwriting in the national touring brothers duo Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank. Teague’s songwriting is clearly influenced by his home in Minnesota, as well as his childhood in New Jersey, and life as a travelling musical hobo. Teague's storytelling has deeper roots to his Irish ancestry. The name ‘Teague’ was once used to describe the storytelling poets who travelled ancient Ireland.

Teague's second album of 2017 is a collaboration with Trampled By Turtles mandolin player Erik Berry. 'Irish American' features nine traditional Irish favorites, including "Whiskey in the Jar," "The Wild Colonial Boy" and "Mountain Dew," as well as two original songs.

Teague’s first album of 2017, Circuit Sessions, combines multiple musical genres into a powerful new collection of Teague’s poetic songs with the lionstrong production and rhythm section of Eric Pollard (Actual Wolf) and Steve Garrington (Low) joined by Minneapolis guitarist Jake Hanson.

Teague also has a new musical and storytelling podcast “Wisecracks & Roadside Flats.” The “Wisecracks” podcast gives Teague the chance to tell his American stories and folktales with a musical background from his own extensive catalog of released and unreleased material as well as music from Teague’s many musical associates.

In 2015, North Star Press published a collection of Teague’s rhyming musical folktales called The New Folklore: Lyrical Tales for Dreamers & Thinkers, a continuation on the theme of the award-winning 2006 album The New Folklore by Teague Alexy and The Feelin Band. In 2012, Teague released his highly-regarded album This Dance, produced by Erik Koskinen. Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank's newest album, American Shuffle, is their fifth full-length album. The Hobo Nephews catalog of highly-regarded original songs remain at the core of Minnesota's roots music resurgence.

The Weekly Reader calls Teague “a potential great new American voice. The gift of painting pictures with words is a unique one, and this man is truly blessed.”

"timeless songwriting chops....loose, lively song rave-ups and masterful guitar work. Easily one of the best Minnesota-made albums of the year."
- MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE review of Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank album Number One Contender

"His new album is a deeper examination of the world....a timeless feel paired with modern content and romantic, meaningful lyrics"
-HIGH PLAINS READER (This Dance review)

"deep and meaningful lyrics....a sense of timelessness to it. It’s almost as if this album were released 30 years ago or 30 years from now, it’d still hold it’s own."
- DULUTH READER (This Dance review)

"Teague Alexy steps out as a buzzworthy singer/songwriter on his CD The New Folklore"
-MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE - Chris Riemenschneider

"Records this good--so engaging, defined by groove, and full of thoughtful words and sounds--are rare."
- MNARTISTS.ORG - Chris Godsey (New Folklore review)

“noticeably strong songwriting skills and a velvet voice accenting his infectious grooves. You may have not yet heard about Teague Alexy. Chances are you will very soon.”
-ST. CLOUD TIMES
