Tradfest - the new folk
Sunday, January 28th, 2018
5:30 PM
St Werburgh's Church
Dublin, Ireland
Ciara Sidine plays Tradfest hot on the heels of an acclaimed second album Unbroken Line (RTE Album of the Week; “outstanding…a compelling mix of aesthetic brilliance and poignant empathy” Hot Press) which has placed her at the forefront of the Irish alt country and folk scene. In the tradition, Sidine's songwriting is underpinned by themes of ordinary struggles, forgotten histories and the fight for restitution - never captured more effectively than in the songs Finest Flower, which prompted touching responses from survivors of mother and baby homes across Ireland, or Trouble Come Find Me (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hlf4EBhLhoY). Sidine’s work has been likened to that of Gillian Welch, Maria McKee and Alison Krauss, but the singer-songwriter is very much her own voice, and her show at TradFest 2018 promises to be a remarkable showcase for this vital new talent.
