About this concert

Sweet Dreams Biography

ROBIN ELLISON
Robin has been playing and singing in bands since the tender age of 15 when she was lucky enough to be part of the vibrant music scene of the late 60's in one of the San Jose area's most popular bands, The Grapes of Wrath. It was with this band that she had the privilege of meeting and playing gigs with Fritz, the original band of Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham. She went on to play in many other bands including the all original band, Bender, who opened for the Neville Brothers and Steven Bishop. She added keys and acoustic/electric guitar to her singing talents to help round out the sounds of her band Blackwater Station, Routes 66 and Broken Fences. She is thrilled to be going back to her origins with the acoustic/electric sounds of SweetDreams and the very fine melodic playing of her partners, Ken and Dan.

KEN KLEIN
Like many musicians his age, 65, guitarist Ken Klein was brought up on classical music and show tunes until he got a transistor radio in 1963. This led to new worlds of folk, R&B, soul and rock, and an interest playing music. The LSD came later.

The years since have seen Ken in both original and cover bands in the greater bay area including The Blondes, Beandog Desperate Men, Strawberry Souls and Broken Fences.

Ken’s influences run the gamut from Thelonious Monk to James Brown to Peter, Paul and Mary and now he sort of returns to his roots with Sweet Dreams.

“I’m thrilled to be playing acoustic guitar again and working on great harmonies with my band mates” Ken says. “In a short amount of time I think this trio has developed our own sound as our play list expands.”

DAN BLAKE
Dan's musical adventure began when his Scottish grandmother gave him guitar lessons when he was 10 years old. She ended up giving him the guitar and he still has it almost 50 years later! He played guitar in folk and punk bands back in the day before setting music aside to raise a family. Along the way he picked up the bass and it has become his primary gigging instrument. He has played in folk, Celtic and rock bands in the Santa Cruz area, most notably spending seven years with Drifting Compass as well as singing with the Santa Cruz Peace Choral. His motto?
