Shana Halligan Biography

During and since her time as the lead singer/songwriter of Bitter:Sweet, Shana Halligan has sold more than 500,000 records and has accumulated over 70 album credits to her name. Additionally, her music has received numerous high-profile synchs and licensing deals in film, TV, ad campaigns and beyond, including Youth & Consequences, Sex and The City, The Devil Wears Prada, Focus, Cars 2, The Feud, The Blacklist, Orange Is The New Black, Entourage, Being Mary Jane, Queen Sugar, Grey's Anatomy, Victoria's Secret, Korbel and Sheraton Hotels, just to name a few. She’s also collaborated with many major acts, including writing and recording with Serj Tankian of System Of A Down and Thievery Corporation (co-writing and performing their biggest hit in recent years “Depth Of My Soul”), and has performed at several celebrated venues around the globe, including the Hollywood Bowl, The Kennedy Center, the Royal Albert Hall (London), the Bowery Ballroom (NYC) and the Hotel Cafe (L.A.).

Never one to take a break, 2018 has started off in tremendous fashion: Halligan sang two songs in the new Peter Rabbit animated movie, including the end title song with the inimitable James Corden; her new single, Hurricane, was synched as the featured song in the trailer for YouTube Red’s biggest production to date, Youth & Consequences; she just finished recording a single for Rob Garza’s much anticipated EP, along with Depth of My Soul and Love Has No Heart for a new Thievery Corporation orchestral album; and last but not least she was featured in Season 14 of NBC’s hit television show, The Voice (#TeamAlicia).

The sultry songstress’ most recent solo endeavor, Back To Me, is an exploration of human sensuality told through songs of romance, heartache and personal reflection. Adding that perfectly sealed kiss of mystique, pain and hope, Halligan’s uniquely tortured voice brings back the art of classic vocal allure mixed with modern-day, moody production. Picture this: a Prohibition Era speakeasy in 1920s America backed by a futuristic electronic jazz band. Cutting through a haze of thick cigar smoke and the clamor of clinking martini glasses, Halligan stands tall and confident. All eyes are on her as she sashays across the stage. All ears are in tune as she lets her innermost emotions sink to the deepest pits of the soul. Her voice carries the vintage appeal of emotive jazz crooners, the ferocity and freedom of a modern woman in charge of her artistic destiny, and the vigor of a performer fully realizing her creative zenith. It’s a force all unique to Halligan.

Back To Me was the result of an arduous personal journey for Halligan spread across a few short years. Following the dissolving of her previous project, Bitter:Sweet, and a failed marriage, Halligan moved to Europe to find clarity, peace and inspiration. It was during this period where she discovered a renewed artistic renaissance via an array of collaborations, notably her time with celebrated new wave bossa nova French collective Nouvelle Vague and her experimentation in the electronic music space via work with producer Morgan Page and Rob Garza from Thievery Corporation. Through this heartbreak and travel, Halligan also released Richmond Parade (2012), but Back To Me is her reemergence as the voice missing in today’s modern music landscape. The famed KCRW radio station in Los Angeles must have agreed, as they have heavily supported the new album, formally “presenting” her album release concert and culminating with Shana’s live performance on the world renowned Morning Becomes Eclectic show hosted by Jason Bentley.

In addition to her own album, Shana is consistently collaborating with other artists and producers, writing for film and television, and is the national spokesperson for the Children’s Music Fund, a non-profit providing music therapy and instruments to children and young adults suffering from chronic and life-altering illnesses.
