Benjamin Jephta

After a 'sold-out' performance at the Cape Town Fringe festival, Benjamin Jephta, the 2017 Standard Bank Young Artist Award winner for Jazz, is performing at with his newly form quartet at the Chisolm Recital Room at UCT - South African College of Music on the 27th October 2017 at 8:30pm. Benjamin Jephta Akoustik will perform original jazz compositions interwoven with with infuences of hip-hop, rock and electronic music. The compositions have a strong African and gospel influence and the sound of the Cape where Benjamin grew up. The band will perform new material as well as music from his latest offering, The Evolution of an Undefined, as well as from his debut album, Homecoming For this performance, he will be joined by 2014 Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz, Kyle Shepherd on piano, Marlon Witbooi (drums) and Reza Khota (guitar) for an intimate acoustic based performance. Jephta, has already made a name for himself as one of South Africa’s premier jazz double bass and electric bass players and has been nominated for Metro FM and SAMA awards as well as winning the SAMRO Wawela Music Award for ‘Best Male Artist’ and ‘Songwriter of the Year’.
