About this concert
CLOAKROOM For Time Well, the band’s Relapse Records debut and second full-length overall, the members of Cloakroom made a work that’s at once grandiose and deeply insular. Following the release of 2015’s Further Out on Run For Cover Records, the band toured alongside the likes of Brand New, Russian Circles, and Nothing. Those tours proved that Cloakroom makes perfect sense opening for instrumental post-metal bands and acts that cut their teeth on the pop-punk circuit, without adhering to either style. Cloakroom occupies a space between worlds, crafting its unique brand of thoughtfully heavy music, something Relapse has long specialized in. For Time Well, Martin, Markos, and Busch further explored the creative space they share by opting not to record in someone else’s studio, but to start from scratch and build one themselves. The culmination of that shared effort is a work that transcends simple genre descriptors. The music coalesces into a thick wall of sound, lumbering forward as one singular piece that never begins to atrophy. Yet simultaneously, it indulges in the band’s softer side, turning those tributes to Jason Molina into Cloakroom’s very own brand of Americana, one that’s equally concerned with the astral plane and our modern world. http://cloaknet.org/

Porch Biography

Angular, dissonant, alternative, odd - these descriptors might give you an idea of what you’re in for should you come across San Francisco’s offbeat PORCH. The distinctive pedigree of this trio includes former members of Primus, Today is the Day, and Samiam, but do not let those bands lead you any which way; PORCH is its own road, journey and destination. Guitarist/vocalist Todd Huth’s distinctive guitar style blends the heavy aggressiveness and complex time signatures of noise-rock with delicate passages that leave bassist Christopher Frey and drummer Michael Scott Jacobs plenty of room for experimentation in creating a barely restrained rhythmic unity. Their pummel has not lost an ounce of intensity in 25 years - since 1992, they’ve maintained a healthy touring schedule in the US and abroad, as well as multiple releases on Alternative Tentacles, Mammoth Records, and Blackball Records. Rest assured, these wild-eyed misfits may have matured, but their bark remains equally as vicious as their bite.

“Walking Boss”, the third record from California weirdo math punks pOrch, continues its ascent to towards becoming a definitive staple of many a noise-rock record collection. Since the album’s 2015 release via Blackball records, pOrch have successfully toured both the states and Europe, garnering praise from American and International audiences. France’s Radio Kultura calls Walking Boss, “Magnificent! Highly Recommended!”, while the UK’s Collective-Zine states “An impressive and accomplished set of songs all around.” In 2016, the record was pressed on 180g blue marble vinyl, limited to 500 copies.

“Walking Boss” boasts ten songs recorded, mixed and mastered by Tim Green at Louder Studios. Green’s impressive recording work with bands like The Melvins, Monotonix, The Fucking Champs, Karp, and a host of others, was a perfect fit for pOrch’s take on experimental, mathy punk rock. Here’s what others have to say about “Walking Boss”:

“The Oakland, California trio do what many bands struggle to, which is strike a balance between experimentation and thoroughly listenable music. This album sounds familiar without becoming staid and maintains their originality.” - Octopus Reviews

“The band’s music is hard to define as it moves from slow-build, off-kilter rock anthems to psyched-out, spazzy freakouts and just straight-up old school rock ‘n’ roll.” - WhatsUp Magazine

“I have no problem recommending ‘Walking Boss’ to people who like atmospheric, guitar-driven music.” - Music Defined

“The players of Porch have been making music for twenty-five years, and the compositional prowess of their latest album Walking Boss’ proves it.” - Divide and Conquer Music
