James Downham Biography

“Unwind ” is James Downham's latest single making waves at Canadian country radio. The track is universally relatable in today’s high-paced work-focussed life. The narrator soulfully voices his desire to step out of the daily grind, and spend time relaxing with his partner.

“Unwind" is the latest release from Downham’s debut full-length album, “The Long Way Home.” The album features an all-star cast of musicians, including CCMA Award Winners Rich DaSilva (2023 Drummer of the Year), Mitch Jay (2022 Steel Guitar Player of the Year, Specialty Instrument Player of the Year) and CCMA Award Nominees Mark Rynkun (2023, Bass Player of the Year) and Matt Koebel ( 2023 Keyboard Player of the Year).

Earlier radio singles include "Wine & Whiskey," “One Mile at a Time,” “Raised On," "Full Speed Ahead," as well as critically acclaimed 2021 single, “We’re Okay”, a powerful duet with country artist, Amanda Kind.

Raised in small town rural Ontario, James called Pembroke and Picton home before settling in Southwestern Ontario. He lives in Stratford, with his wife, Ange.

Downham was winner of Season 2 of The Shot , and was recently selected from thousands of applicants as one of only 14 artists to participate in The Shot: Canada vs. USA . Touted as “North America’s most intense virtual songwriting competition.” He spent over a decade performing in a Tim McGraw tribute act before turning his attention back to original music.
