Welcome to KONA, a monthly event where the cultures of the North and the South collide. As an all inclusive exploration of the space that lies between house and techno, KONA stands for diversity and progression within electronic music, the voice of our creative expression. Together we will look to the future as well as pay our respects to the past, celebrating the music and culture that stirs our souls. We continue our journey on Saturday 30 December 2017 at Mødular in Cape Town with special guest, Stereo Underground. Stereo underground is Yariv Etzion, founder of the BPM College of sound & music in Tel Aviv, Israel. As previous co-owner of the biggest club in Israel "The Cat & Dog", Stereo Underground has shared the dj booth with superstar DJ's including: Danny Howells, John Digweed, Nic Fanciulli, Guy Gerber, Lee Buridge, Pan pot, Robert Babicz & many more. His latest releases have reached the progressive house top charts, with huge support from the biggest dj's in the world so it's no wonder that his music is released on mammoth labels such as Guy J's Lost & Found, Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat, Aly & Fila's FSOE and Guy Mantzur's Plattenbank. Stereo Underground's unique "Outer space" sound has made him one of the most in demand producers today and we are excited to host him for a live set at KONA in Cape Town. Ryan Sullivan Biography
Ryan Sullivan is an electronic music producer and dj specialising in deep progressive house and techno with an electronica flair. Imagine Sasha & John Digweed on safari with Pink Floyd. Heavily influenced by the South African raves of the 90’s and later the sounds of Global Underground, he creates music that evokes euphoria with a sophisticated and entrancing sound.
Since 1997, Ryan Sullivan has been a name synonymous with quality music. Enthusiasts worldwide have come to love his emotive sound, unique productions and dynamic DJ sets. It’s not only fans who are moved by his work as Ryan has received praise from international industry leaders such as Hernán Cattáneo, Sasha, Dave Seaman, Moshic, Pole Folder, Menno de Jong, Pezzner, Tony Humphries, Glenn Underground, Eelke Kleijn, Darin Epsilon and loads more who have played his music at clubs and festivals around the world.
Ryan’s first breakthrough came in 2005 when Glo-Tech Africa Records signed his first two records, sending both the label and the artist into the international electronic music charts. This attention has since led to a continuous stream of record releases throughout the world on labels such as Lowbit Records, Baroque, Manual Music, Perc Trax, Triplefire Music, Golden Wings Music and more.
The attention from his international selling records also boosts his DJ career, regularly playing at clubs and massive festival events such as Amsterdam Dance Event aka ADE (NL), Quest Festival (VT) and Fun & Floor (CH) abroad as well as Oppikoppi, Rocking The Daisies, Earthdance, Origin, Jungala and Fu-Cha Gatherings in Southern Africa. His stage appearances have been alongside artists such as Richie Hawtin, Black Coffee, Dave Seaman, Efdemin, Ralf Kollmann, Darin Epsilon, Eelke Kleijn, Miss Nine, Frivolous, Ambivalent, Daedelus, Alex Niggemann, Oskido, Vinny Da Vinci and loads more.
Throughout the years, Ryan’s steadily increasing profile has given him the opportunity to remix some well known artists, including African artists such as Mafikizolo, Spikiri, Tucan Tucan and Afroboogie, as well as European artists such as V-Sag, Andrew K, Ingo Vogelmann, Peet, Indieveed and Antonio Citarella among others.
His area of work extends beyond dance music, having composed music for film and television and often being credited as recording, mixing and mastering engineer for artists and labels, as well as lecturing audio subjects at tertiary level.
Besides his work as a DJ and producer, Ryan also successfully runs the record label Triplefire Music, which through his KONA and label events and monthly show on Frisky Radio, is constantly growing to reach thousands of people each month.
Consistently completing a string of record releases and remixes, Ryan is excited about the future and looks forward to further spreading his fusion of deep progressive house, techno and electronica music.
