He’s a legend of sound, a veteran of music, and the one and only crowned Remix King—deejay and progressive entrepreneur Delano Thomas has paved the way for many in the industry. As the founder of the one of the most renowned sound systems in the world, Renaissance Disco, Delano’s name is synonymous with both expertise and entertainment.
Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Delano began spinning music in his bedroom as a hobby at only 12 years old. Two years later, he spun for the crowd at his preparatory school’s Christmas party, and stuck with music ever since. Heavily influenced by his father, an electronics engineer, Delano was introduced to the blueprints and building of sound systems from an early age. Owning the “Plus X” sound system ultimately drove Delano’s passion for music and sound.

Initially a member of LeJeaux sound system, Delano decided to branch out on his own. In a very successful attempt to expand his career, he created Renaissance Disco.The sound’s signature energy and originality is a product of the fusion of multiple musical genres. An ever-versatile selector and engineer, Delano’s roots began in reggae and dancehall. He introduced the pairing of these genres with calypso, soca, hip hop, R&B, pop, Latin, house, and even rock. You name it, Delano plays it!

A 1995 incident caused Delano to lose vision in his left eye, and during this time he took a leave from the music scene to focus on his recovery. Through his personal struggle, he managed to regain confidence and emerge on-scene more motivated than ever—debuting his signature eye patch to fans worldwide.
Delano’s graced stages and recording studios with artists across various genres including Grandmaster Flash, Eve, Swiss Beats, Sean Paul, Shaggy, Beenie Man, Bounty Killa, and Destiny’s Child. With some of the hottest and most prominent night clubs around the world seeking to showcase his unmatchable talent, he’s played at The House of Blues in Los Angeles, The Apollo in New York City, Karu & Y as well as the Hard Rock in Miami, and Crystal Palace in London, England.

Delano considers the lack of unity in dancehall music a challenge. While this could stunt some hopefuls from progressing as top international deejays, Delano and his sound have seemed to overcome this obstacle. Touring all over the world, producing acclaimed riddims such as “Rebirth” “Tunda Klap”, “Stepz,” and “Gallis Swing” among many others, appearances on BET’s 106 & Park, MTV, Soul Train, the Conan O’Brien Show, and becoming a Billboard producer with Sean Paul’s chart-topping single “We Be Burnin’”, Delano has not only reached ultimate success, but surpassed it.

Honored, privileged, and humbled to carry the title of Remix King, it was Delano who first fused together hip hop and dancehall, appealing to hundreds of thousands listeners worldwide. His live remixes are admired to this day, and his introduction of this art to the turntables is what makes sounds and artistes alike idolize him as a strong figure in the music industry.

Playing an integral role in the launch of Renaissance Disco’s new generation of deejays in union with the sound’s original veterans, Delano has multiple ventures underway. With the promise of involvement in more event and restaurant opportunities in his native Jamaica, the guaranteed success of this entrepreneur’s investments is endless.
