For Canadian-Irish musician Andrew Conroy, 2017 couldn’t come fast enough. Riding the success of his debut EP, 1AM in Montreal, the multi-instrumentalist wanted nothing more than to continue putting out material. Over the past year, he’s garnered steady radio play across Canada and won over ten awards for his critically acclaimed short film music video for the title track. Conroy’s follow up EP, titled Sleep, further showcases the songwriter’s talent for creating pop-inspired melodies mixed with live instrumentation. Within the five tracks, he crafts lyrical stories of failed relationships, sleepless nights, and the desire to succeed. Sleep also sees Conroy at the helm of recording and self-producing the entire record, as well as performing nearly all the instruments. “During the writing of this record, I found myself reflecting on the past,” explains Conroy. “Some of these songs are about events that took place years ago, but told through the eyes of a matured perspective.” On this record, Conroy mixes piano-driven pop riffs with soaring guitars, to create a sound he describes as “pop that rocks.” While still recalling his last release, Sleep offers a fresh sound that Conroy hopes will attract even more listeners. “It was important to me to evolve musically with this record. I wanted to reference my older material, while still showing listeners that I’m constantly moving forward with my music.” Sleep is available September 8th through Flashlight Music Group.
