Marcus King, quel nom ! Et sa renommée est du même calibre, surtout sur scène après son premier opus « Soul Insight », aujourd’hui suivi d’un « New self titled LP out now on Fantasy Records ». Originaire de Caroline du Sud, ce jeune et vaillant américain nous livre sans conteste l’un des meilleurs Blues Rock du moment. Pensez à « The Allman Brothers » (qu’il reprend volontiers), dopé à l’Americana ou au Rythm'n'Blues funky. Il préfère quant à lui la qualification de « Soulinfluenced Psychedelic Southern Rock ». Parolier, guitariste, chanteur et leader de son groupe à seulement 20 ans, Marcus King est une révélation. Influencé par la Soul et le Blues aux racines de la musique américaine, The Marcus King Band est un groupe de Rock Psychédélique composé de guitares enflammées et de paroles profondes. Warren Haynes, guitariste émérite de Gov’t Mule, n’a pas hésité à les produire, considérant King comme un guitariste doué d’une « maturité dépassant de loin son âge ». Sur la voix et la guitare du « young master King » viennent se greffer quelques lignes d’orgue et une section de cuivres à couper le souffle, qui font rimer sa musique avec « roots », « avenir » et même avec « extase ». Plus de références ? Ce Marcus a déjà partagé la scène avec John Medeski et annonce de belles rencontres dans les mois à venir. Marcus King Band est la révélation All that Jazz de la saison 2017 - 2018. Car quel cran ! Quel Blues ! Quel talent !

Marcus comped me 2 free tickets to the sold out show when I ran into him at the Rival Sons show at the Filmore. He’s a class act all the way and him and the band never disappoint. Also got to visit with Stephen after the show, awesome bass player and generous with his time! 4th time seeing them and I’m definitely a life long fan and can’t wait to see them again.

GRAMMY® Award-nominated artist, performer, and songwriter Marcus King was downright destined to play music. By eight-years-old, the fourth generation Greenville, SC native performed alongside pops, grandpa, and his uncles for the first time. Logging thousands of miles on the road as “The Marcus King Band,” he established himself with unparalleled performance prowess and a dynamic live show. During 2020, he linked up with Dan Auerbach [The Black Keys] and cut his solo debut El Dorado, garnering a GRAMMY® Award nomination in the category of “Best Americana Album.” Beyond praise from NPR, American Songwriter, and more, Rolling Stone christened it “excellent,” and Associated Press went as far as to claim, “El Dorado already stands out as a definite high point of 2020.” In between packing venues on his own, he performed alongside Chris Stapleton, Greta Van Fleet, and Nathanial Rateliff in addition to gracing the bills of Stagecoach and more with one seismic show after the next. Along the way, he caught the attention of Rick Rubin and signed to American Recordings.
Plugged into his old man’s dusty amp with a ’59 Les Paul in hand, Marcus set out to make a rock ‘n’ roll record in 2022. He didn’t disguise his ambitions at all. He didn’t hold back. He didn’t think about anything but writing from the gut, shooting from the hip, and playing straight from the heart. Joined by Auerbach, he made the kind of rock ‘n’ roll record that makes arenas and asses shake, and it’s called Young Blood [American Recordings/Republic Records].
