Substance - A New Order Tribute Biography
Born out of the ashes of Love Vigilantes, Element Zero and Craigslist, Substance is the pinnacle of New Order tributes. Made up of devout New Order fans since the 80's, Substance strives to replicate the New Order sound and concert experience (New Order on a good day that is.) Many hours have been spent researching and procuring the same instruments, amps and effects that New Order used to make their infectious sound. Whether it be Peter Hook’s signature lead bass lines on the Yamaha BB1200S through a Clone Theory chorus effect or Bernard Sumner’s Hohner melodica melody along with his rhythm & simple solos on a Gibson ES335 through a Vox AC30, or Joy Division's ARP Omni 2 strings synth, Substance captures the sound and feel of New Order. Only the correct hardware and soft synths have been used to replicate the original New Order sequences. You'll hear the DMX drum machine, ARP Quadra, Emulator I & II, Yamahas, Korgs, Moogs, the Prophet V...permeate Substance sequences in note for note detail. Substance does not play to New Order instrumental versions! True fans as well as the casual listener will appreciate the detail both Jeff Johnson and Jonathan Chen have put in to Substance. Along with drummer Mark Taylor, fans will be transported back to any New Order show over the last 30 years. At some shows audiences may even be treated to a Joy Division, Monaco or Electronic song. If you are a New Order fan or a fan of one of the New Order side projects, you won’t be disappointed with Substance live.
