You won't believe how much rhythm, soul and energy two saxes and a drummer can generate! I first met Mike, Wenzl, and James at The Southern in February, 2016. I was there to see the opening band - my good friends Threesound. It was a sold out show. Having no idea what to expect, I was hooked after the first song. They are extremely talented and clearly love what they do. And you ain't heard a beat drop til you get Hooched. Damn skippy - I said it. Who woulda thought they were packing alla that? Even though I know many of their songs, the beat drop stops my heart every freaking time. It is obvious that these guys are intellectuals - they are comfortable enough with their talent to push the envelope of creativity. Their videos are nothing short of genius. Here are my two favorites. You've GOT to watch these: Ewi: https://youtu.be/yUEapzqptIA Cattle Dance Party (at the legendary Polyface Farm): https://youtu.be/3n6Ra-K7us8 Mike and Wenzl are the definition of energy. They use props and play with sound in ways that stir you to dance; like jamming a traffic cone into the sax, sounding like a cross between a foghorn and a whale, or using a old broken radio, Ableton Live and their instruments to send you simultaneously backward and forward in time. And the drums. James is a dervish - expertly layering the rhythm and time changes so well that even the Chads gotta move. Hold my beer. Don't take my word for it. Even NPR is down with the Hooch. No band gets me dancing like Moon Hooch. Long as they come to venues in driving distance. I'm there.
