About this concert
Captivating and original, Folk Jazz fusion that will delight, surprise and entertain. The combination of Paul Hutchinson (Belshazzar's Feast, Hoover the Dog) on accordion with a folk background and Karen Wimhurst (Cauld Blast Orchestra) on clarinets with a classical and jazz background is not an obvious one but works oh so brilliantly. What they do have in common is they are both supremely talented musicians who bring something new and fresh to every performance.David Kidman (Fatea) summed what to expect really well when he wrote expect ebullient yet sensitive playing, with infectious, well-pointed rhythms, and a talent for taking tunes off into creative tangents, a real gift for affectionate pastiche, and a keen understanding of all manner of folk and world musics, classical and jazz disciplines. Oh, and a delicious sense of wordplay.Since Pagoda's last appearance at ACE Space (in the days they were a duo rather than a project) they have recorded and released their first CD Clarion to great acclaim. Songlines gave them a 5 star review (the only 5 star review in an edition that reviewed over 60 CDs). Their last gig is still the only one where two encores were demanded by the audience. Pagoda Project gigs tend to be few and far between so don't miss this opportunity.
