Carl Towns Biography

Carl Towns is a singer, songwriter and musician who has been singing since the age of 3, and playing mandolin since the age of 18. He is also proficient in Guitar, Bass, and Resonator Guitar.
Carl grew up performing with his family, The Towns Family, in churches, singing the old hymns and Bluegrass Gospel. The family band consisted of his Dad, Joe on Banjo, his mother Polly on Guitar, his older brother Jeff on Bass, and his older sister, Loretta singing. Carl sang some songs when he was called from the time he was 3 up until he was 10 years old. Later the family reformed as the Bluegrass Harmoneers, adding Jackie Tinker on Guitar and Vocals, Carl took up bass. This band toured for over 15 years at festivals, concerts and more playing bluegrass music across the southeast and into parts of the northern region of the USA.
After Carl was signed to a record label, the Bluegrass Harmoneers folded and he tried his hand in the Country Music industry. Having toured overseas, he came back in 1998 to his roots and formed a new bluegrass group which honored his Native American heritage.
In 1998, Cherokee Wind began playing around the southeast. They experienced some some success on radio with Carl's original song, "Cherokee Wind" and began traveling more frequently. This band continued on the road until 2004 when sickness fell upon members of the band. Carl's mother became too sick to travel and Chester Prince a long time friend and member experienced hardship when his wife passed. This took its toll and the group was put on hiatus.
Carl's mother passed in 2006, and it all but slammed Carl's desire to play music into a wall. He stopped playing for 2 years. But there was light at the end of the tunnel. In 2008, the music in Carl sprang back and rejuvenated within him after he wrote his first song in a long time. This song, "The Flowers still bloom" was inspired by Carl's realization that flowers his mother had planted were still living, and through his faith he realized that she still lived in Christ and that the music must go on.
Carl began writing, singing and performing again. He released, "Songs from my Childhood Vol. 1" in 2009 and began reconnecting with people he had lost touch with in those two years. He performed for a few years as Carl Towns & The Remnant and then was reunited with friends in The Dade County Boys.
Since that time , he has performed in various outfits as Mandolin and/or guitar player and vocals.
He is still a member of The Dade County Boys from Trenton, Georgia. Currently Carl focuses on his own band, as he is set to release new music in 2017 and beyond!
