Taking place at the one-and-only Mt Samson natural amphitheater, the infamous weekend sleep-over-party promises to be the biggest yet. So what is this Red Deer thing everyone keeps talking about? And why am I only hearing about it now?! Good question.. well.... Red Deer is basically a house party at your mate's place. Except your mate lives on 90-hectares of pristine grazing land beneath the rolling hills of the D'aguilar Range, and instead of listening to Nickleback's 'Best of' on your mates iPod, you'll boogie to an exciting and eclectic mix of up-and-coming acts from around the country, while you sip your BYO bevvie of choice on your BYO couch and wonder which food truck you'll try first. Oh and there's stacks of ways you can get involved; we're talking ping pong, frisby, belly-dancing, drum and hula hoop workshops to name just a few, there's even an annual themed fashion of the fields dance-off contest where you can strut your stuff in front of a thousand of your new best friends! Organised by two teachers and a nurse, Red Deer is all about mates and music. We're not trying to sell you a mobile phone contract or convince you that an energy drink will improve your social life. No, Red Deer is about real people, and real artists, making a real impact on the Brisbane music scene. Our punters come back every year because they believe in what we do, and know that Red Deer is just as much their festival as it is ours. Now in our seventh year, we love our little festie and argue it's probably the best in the world. If not the best, at least the most relaxed. But that's just what we think! Mayhem For Mary Biography
This is Mayhem For Mary.
Mayhem For Mary began a classic 4 piece (Drums, Bass, Guitar, Vocals) in early 2015, creating original music derived from influences as varied as grunge, metal, blues, prog and folk. The departure of the original guitarist meant a short hiatus for the band for much of 2016. Having searched in vain for a suitable guitarist, the decision was made to abandon the 4 piece concept and instead continue as an alternative 3 piece (Drums, Bass, Vocals). This decision was a massive positive turning point as it opened up a whole new area of sonic exploration for the band, leading to experimentation with vocal effects and textures, and some interesting signal routing and bass guitar effects. The band delved into sounds which would surely have been overlooked had a guitarist been part of the writing sessions. The process gave rise to a whole new body of work which included some more beat driven dance vibes along with the heavy alt-rock sound which was retained from the 4-piece days.
The philosophy of the band remains unchanged.
To Make music which is at once everything and nothing. To scratch the creative itch. To scratch the surface of what has gone before. To strive to find the line between the weird and the accessible. To Tickle the line and make it wobble. To ponder, to let the mind wander, to make you sway and rock and dance. To make a spark which might one day start another fire, and above all, not to let inspiration waste.
To reflect for a moment on the vastness of the universe, to think of all the people who have come and gone through the ages, and then to create a piece of music which has never been heard before....... That's fucking awesome. That's why Mayhem For Mary exists.
