Frenchy and the Punk Biography

"An inspiriting slice of post-punk hued, new wave nurtured rock 'n roll" Ringmaster Review

Through their unmistakable blend of influences ranging from post-punk and dark folk to new wave and goth, Frenchy and the Punk have forged their own distinct path since 2005, touring across the US and Europe with their artful two-person powerhouse of sound.

Drawing inspiration from post-punk legends like The Cure, the upbeat energy and percussive textures of Adam and the Ants, the bewitching mystique of Siouxsie and the Banshees, and the quirky charm of The B-52's, they have crafted a sound that is both nostalgic and refreshingly authentic delivered in an unorthodox way.

The pair is proof positive that opposites really do attract. French-born singer/percussionist and former ballet dancer Samantha Stephenson, fronts the duo with her sultry yet powerful voice, often likened to iconic legends Siouxsie Sioux, Johnette Napolitano and Grace Slick. Coupled with the melodic electro/acoustic guitar stylings and looping mastery of her American-born partner and former hardcore punk bassist Scott Helland, the dynamic partnership is a force to be reckoned with. A real life love story against the backdrop of an unwavering dedication to the art of music and creativity as a lifestyle and personal journey.

Their most recent album, Zen Ghost, received acclaim from fans and critics alike. Post-Punk.com called it “a wonderful alchemy of complimentary energies." The success of the album is a testament to the appeal of their quirky sound. It’s a captivating journey through dark yet uplifting soundscapes, haunting melodies and upbeat danceable grooves, a true embodiment of their eclectic influences. Favorites at alternative events, their follow-up album, due out in Spring/Summer 2024, is greatly anticipated by their ever growing fanbase around the world.'

"...percolates with stripped-down DIY energy, tribal rhythms, and earthy drama...a melding of ancient archetypes with scrappy street-level attitude makes [it] a lively must-have for punks, hippies, and everyone in between" Robert Burke Warren - Chronogram Arts and Culture Magazine

"It is easy to see where some of Frenchy and the Punk’s influences lie – somewhere in a swirl of gothic and post-punk pioneers of the early eighties and perhaps Siouxsie and the Banshees in particular. There are also the echoes of one of my favorite bands hanging over the music, Concrete Blonde; the same shamanic sound, the same blend of the sultry and the sensational, of rock moves and voodoo grooves." The Bigtakeover Magazine
