Malima Kone Biography
Malima Kone is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Burkina Faso, West Africa. Originally from Mali, Malima belongs to the ancient Jeli (“Griot”) music tradition of the Bwaba people, whose cultural musical heritage he carries forward while incorporating outside influences. Born into the renowned Kone family of West Africa, Malima has drawn from his lifetime of musical study to preserve the sound of its Jeli tradition. He is the creator of the New Jeli style.
Kone sings in 5 languages ( Bwaba, Bambara/Dioula, Moore French and English) His songs and lyrics embody messages of hope, equality, love, liberty, compassion, unity, and universal solidarity.
In 2011 Malima launched his first single, “Dambe.’’ Malima’s strong vocals and raw style fit seamlessly with his fusion of Afro Soul Jazz and Reggae. In 2018, He launched a second New single, “Yere-Yini,” This single was followed by his new album, “This Is The Time.” now available on all musical platforms.
