The Haggis Horns launch their 4th LP at The Wardrobe Leeds for "Soul Rebels Leeds" 5th Birthday this October. Since they first hit the music scene in 1999, The Haggis Horns have established themselves as one of the best funk bands in the country. Their horn section has worked with Mark Ronson, Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen, Martha Reeves, Lou Donaldson, Jamiroquai, Corinne Bailey Rae to name a few. In 2007, they released their debut LP "Hot Damn!" with UK hip-hop/soul/jazz/beats label First Word Records followed up in 2010 with their second album for the label “Keep On Moving”. In 2015, they released their third album “What Comes To Mind” on their own new label Haggis Records and in summer 2017, they dropped a new single on the label “Take It Back” featuring guest rapper Doc Brown. The fourth Haggis Horns album is out early Nov and is being launched at this gig with exclusive pre release vinyl & CD copies for sale. The band will have the full A-team in place for this show including singer John McCallum (Corinne Bailey Rae band) and more guests still to be confirmed. Support artist is singer Mali Hayes, one of the rising stars of the UK neo-soul/future soul scene. After graduating from Leeds College Of Music 18 months ago, the Mancunian singer has been building a following across the country with two single releases and a debut EP, all original material self-produced, financed and released by herself. In January 2017, she won a place on the prestigious Brownswood Records (Gilles Peterson’s label) “Future Bubblers” scheme where the label mentors and assists promising new young artists on their first steps in their musical careers. If you like Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and Corinne Bailey Rae, you will love the voice and music of Mali Hayes. DJs on the night, as always, are Soul Rebels residents Lubi (also promoter of the night) and Chris. Expect the usual mix of old and new, known and underground, listening and dancefloor sounds. Like the Soul Rebels motto says ”from Fela to Dilla and beyond…” Soul Rebels sessions have featured many great artists over the last 5 years including The Abstract Orchestra, Thundercat (USA), Femi Kuti, Jose James (USA), The Haggis Horns, Ed Motta (Brazil), Nubiyan Twist, Roller Trio, Renegade Brass Band, London Afrobeat Collective, Yussef Kamaal, Paper Tiger, Criolo (Brazil), Jungle Fire (USA), THABO, Noya Rao, Omar MBE, The Mouse Outfit, Coleman Brothers, Riot Jazz Brass Band, TY, Dulahli, Mansion Of Snakes, Fayth Hope (USA) and Hot Diamond Aces.
