About this concert
Cure for an Existential Crisis: four folk suites and one song exploring the crisis of living and the fear of death” is the debut album of singer-songwriter Jelly Cleaver. She combines a unique and virtuosic guitar style with lyrics that evoke the social commentary of Bob Dylan and the poetry of Leonard Cohen. She has often drawn comparisons to Joni Mitchel and Jeff Buckley for the wildness of her vocals and the daring originality of her music. The album’s narrative is of a crisis coming full circle and being resolved, through love, through the beauty of nature, but most of all through acceptance. This is a unique opportunity to hear the album stripped down and played live from start to finish, accompanied by the original string quartet arrangements from the recording. The performance will be intimate and honest. Introducing her will be the soulful and beautiful Paige Annelize. Her vocal expression has been described as haunting, but her lyrics come from totally human experiences. Set on a simple musical accompaniment, this is a vocal treat of melancholic blues/ gospel and alternative country/folk.
