Alex DiMattia Biography
Few Singer Songwriters have as diverse a background as Alex DiMattia. To quote from his own lyrics, Alex is the “Son of Italian Traditions and American Dreams”. The oldest son of an Auto Mechanic and one of four siblings, Alex has never been afraid of rolling up his sleeves. A multi-sport athlete, he competed in the Pennsylvania State Olympics and won a gold medal in the USA Hockey National Olympics at age 14. Six months before his 15th birthday Alex began dancing ballet, with no prior dance training, and at age 18 he joined Houston Ballet’s apprentice company, Houston Ballet II, in Texas. At age 19 Alex left Houston and enrolled at West Chester University of Pennsylvania (WCU). While at WCU Alex danced for Brandywine Ballet Company, and joined Pi Kappa Phi National Fraternity, which introduced him to charity work with their national philanthropy, PUSH America. Alex graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2009 with a Bachelors degree in Accounting, and that same year began working for Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) Taxation practice. At PwC Alex continued his passion for charity work, participating in the annual MS City to Shore Bike Ride, and Ride Ataxia and the following year he became the PwC cycling team captain. Alex picked up the guitar as a new hobby his last year of college, and began writing poetry as he commuted back and forth to work on the train to Philadelphia. In 2011 Alex left PwC to continue dancing and build his music career. In December 2012 he released his first record “Starting Again” and began performing regionally. In early 2013 he released the single “Your Sunshine” and toured several cities down the East Coast including Nashville, Atlanta and Charleston. In the fall of 2013 Alex released a holiday single “Snowflakes Start to Fall” which went into rotation at WXPN in Philadelphia. Alex is now living in New York City and performing through out the Northeast. Principal Dancer at Brandywine Ballet http://www.brandywineballet.org/ Singer Songwriter
