The Temptations are one of the most influential groups in the history and evolution of soul and R&B. The history of The Temptations is the history of contemporary American pop. An essential component of the original Motown machine, that amazing engine invented by Berry Gordy, The Temps began their musical life in Detroit in the early sixties. The group made famous the vocal style, choreographed dance moves, and flashy stage attire that came to define soul music. Their songs "My Girl," "Ain't Too Proud to Beg," "Papa Was a Rolling Stone," and dozens of other hits have been performed by an evolving cast of Temptations singers for over 50 years. The current lineup consists of the groups only surviving original member Otis Williams, plus Ron Tyson, Terry Weeks, Joe Herndon, and Bruce Williamson.
