Hugh Mitchell Biography

Hugh Mitchell is a writer, producer, and singer. He is known for his voice and the diverse styles of music he makes.

Growing up in Birmingham, AL, Hugh moved to Nashville in 2006. After some years as a for-hire guitarist
Hugh released his self-produced EP "Heartbreak Radio". In 2014 Hugh begin working with then, bay-area producer Jeremy Black, at Coyote Hearing Studio. In 2017 he recorded the EP "Changes" with producer, and former Wilco drummer, Ken Coomer. In 2019 he and Jeremy Black, formed LaBoix in Berlin. 2020 saw the mandatory bedroom productions such as Into, Migente, and Night Lights.

The electronic-based solo ep's "Analog" and "Digital Sky" are scheduled for 2023 as well as back-catalogue songs made with non-traditional recording methods. The single "Again and Again", scheduled for September 2023, was recorded entirely on an iPhone.

“My first real good paying gig was playing guitar in Pentecostal Black Gospel Choirs in Birmingham. We were each playing a different style at the same time. I had to learn how to really play and I was in."

"The hardest thing for me to learn has been to just be myself and not consider whether the piece of music I'm making fits anywhere. I don't think about what something is anymore, I just consider whether it makes me feel something. It's taken a while to accept that seeming chaos is my thing. Putting something into a genre was counterproductive and slowed me down for years. I'm glad that's over now. I hope the result is that whatever audience I have gets exposed to stuff they might not listen to otherwise."
