HCC invites you to Semmelweis, the debut of a new opera-music-theater work at the prestigious National Arts Club. Semmelweis is a hauntingly beautiful work performed by a group of singers and ensemble. The work is inspired by the tragic yet true story of the visionary nineteenth-century Hungarian obstetrician Ignaz Semmelweis (1818-1865), who discovered the simple antiseptic solution to overcome devastating childbed fever epidemics through hand washing, but was misunderstood and died alone. The upcoming 200th anniversary of his birth presents a moment to reflect on his powerful story.
Semmelweis is the work of NYC-based composer Raymond J. Lustig and writer Matthew Doherty, and a conceptual/creative team including American-Dutch dramaturg Erwin Maas and acclaimed Slovenian vocal theater director Karmina Šilec. Please RSVP with your name and the full names of your guests. Guest places are not transferable.
